Freezing - Pakkasta riittää

We're breaking records in Finland. This is one of the longest continuous periods ever, when the temperatures haven't risen above zero (Celcius, i.e. 32F). Last time the temperature (here where we live) was above zero in the beginning of December. In addition it has been very cold in general and this morning again -30C (-22F) and I think this is almost enough :) I love the sunshine these colds bring and I love snow, but it's a bit too cold for kids to go to school by bike and it's a bit too cold for taking a nice winter walk. But it's nice to sit by the fire and stitch and look at the beautiful sunshine outside :)

Maria gave me this wonderful Valentine's Day (Friendship day in Finland) gift, she has made it herself of course! I'm not sure of all the techniques she used, she explained them, but paper crafts is something I don't understand :) The text translated into English is "To sing is human, to meow is divine". Isn't it perfect? I found a perfect place for it on our piano.

Below St Hippolyte, I managed to finish the acorn band this week! The next band is very different... However, now it's the third weekend of the month, so I'm stitching Christmas ornaments with Stephanie today, yippee :) It's wonderful to get into Christmas mood again.

Minä ainakin jo uskon, että nyt on talvi, nämä pakkaset saisivat vähän lauhtua :) Tänä aamuna mittari näytti taas -30C. Auringonpaiste on kyllä ihanaa ja lumi, mutta on vähän turhan kylmä lasten mennä pyörällä kouluun ja on vähän turhan kylmä kävelylenkeille. Toisaalta tuo auringonpaiste on niin, niin kaunis. On mukava istua sisällä takkatulen ääressä ja pistellä ja katsella ulos ikkunasta :)

Marialta sain ihanan ystävänpäivälahjan, jonka hän on tehnyt itse. En muista tietenkään enää, mitä kaikkia tekniikoita siinä on käytetty, paperiaskartelu on jotain tosi mystistä minun mielestäni :) Tuo teksti on täydellinen, tykkään kovasti! Koristeelle löytyi paikka pianon päältä. Kiitos Maria hurjasti :)

Alapuolella Hippolyytti, sain tammenterhonauhan valmiiksi tällä viikolla. Seuraavan värit ovat taas ihan erilaiset... Nyt on kuitenkin kuun kolmas viikonloppu, niinpä pistelen joulukoristeita Stephanien kanssa tänään jee :) Ihana sukeltaa jouluajatuksiin taas.

My faithful companion, part II - Uskollinen seuralainen, osa II

Actually I have been sticking to my rotation, even though this band is still not finished. But I've stitched more than half of it now! The sidetrack last week was Jaana's RR, as I didn't quite manage to finish it when it was officially in my rotation. Another sidetrack can be seen at Violarium's blog, as I just HAD to start stitching it as soon as I received the charts to Violarium :) I think I'll make an Eiffel Tower wall somewhere in our house...

I love the Eiffel Tower! For me it's the symbol of Paris and France, even though some might say it's a well-worn image. I love the shape and even though I've never been able to climb up (I hate heights :) ) I've been at the foot many, many times and I have lots of memories of it. I've seen it lit up at night, also from the airplane when the plane once circled the city when we were going back home. It was wonderful! There's something fascinating in the material and structure. I love especially the lower parts of the pillars. It's wonderful to walk to the Champ de Mars and see the first glimpse of the tower, but it's also wonderful to see the tower from the other side of the river Seine or from Montmartre or very near from between the high houses.

Oh well, that's it, off my soap box and no more yearning :) Below my faithful companion again. Pipari always jumps on the kitchen cupboard when I cook :) I think it's a perfect place to check what's for dinner.

Olen melko hyvin pysynyt lukujärjestyksessä, vaikka tämä nauha ei vieläkään ole valmis. Yksi sivuraide viime viikolla oli Jaanan RR, jota en saanut ihan valmiiksi viikolla 2, kun se virallisesti oli vuorossa. Toinen sivuraide näkyy Violariumin blogissa, oli ihan pakko aloittaa tuo heti kun mallit saapuivat Violariumiin. Taidan tehdä jonkun Eiffelin torni -seinän johonkin päin taloa...

Minä niin tykkään Eiffelin tornista! Minulle se on yksi Pariisin ja Ranskan symboleista, vaikka joidenkin mielestä se on ehkä kulunut sellainen. Tykkään tornin muodosta ja vaikka en ole koskaan kiivennyt ylös (en juurikaan välitä korkeista paikoista... :) ), niin olen käynyt juurella monet, monet kerrat ja sieltä on paljon muistoja. Olen nähnyt tornin valaistuna yöllä, myös lentokoneesta, kun kerran kotiin mennessä kone kiersi koko kaupungin, upeaa! Materiaalissa ja rakenteessa on jotain niin kiehtovaa, tykkään erityisesti pilareiden alaosista. Tuntuu aina yhtä ihanalta kävellä Champ de Marsin puistoon ja nähdä ensimmäinen vilaus tornista, mutta upealta torni näyttää myös Seinen toiselta puolelta tai Montmartrelta katsottuna tai pilkahdellen läheltä korkeiden kerrostalojen välistä.

Oukkidoukki, paasaaminen ja ikävöiminen sikseen :) Alapuolella uskollinen seuralainen, ystävämme Pipari, joka kiipeää aina keittiön kaapin päälle katsomaan mitä tänään syödään :) Ylhäällä tuoksut hellalta ovat varmasti parhaimmat.

Re-runnings - Hiihii Hippolyytti, hiihii Hill Streetti

St Hippolyte is here again! I continued to stitch the acorn band while watching Hill Street Blues with my daughter last night. When I was at her age, I watched it with my brother and I still like it, it's the best! I even have the theme tune in my mobile phone as one of the ring tones... :)

The series has been re-running on TV for some time now and we have the episodes stored automatically, so we can watch it when we want to. Everything was ok until FST (Finland's Swedish Television channel) decided to re-run Season 1 again in the morning in addition to the Season 4 (in the evening). Ooh la la! On top of it all Season 1 is shown couple of times a week (I think) and Season 4 once a week (I think) with a re-run the next day (I think)... So we now watch happily everything muddled up as they are stored, because my daughter hasn't seen Season 1 yet and absolutely wants to :) At least we get a huge weekly portion of Hill Street Blues when we once a week are glued to the television :)

Tonight no Hill Street Blues though, my daughter is reading The Hound of the Baskervilles for school and I'll stitch seriously. Happy stitching!

Hippolyytti täällä taas hei! Pikkuisen sain tätä tehtyä eilen, kun katsottiin tytön kanssa Hill Street Bluesia. Suurinpiirtein hänen ikäisenään katsoin sitä pikkuveljen kanssa telkkarista ja tykkään vieläkin, ihan paras! Tunnusmusa on jopa yhtenä soittoäänenä kännykässä... :)

Sarjaa on näytetty FST:llä uusintana jo jonkun aikaa. Jaksot menevät meillä automaattisesti digiboksille, että voidaan katsoa silloin kun on hyvä hetki. Kaikki oli ok, kunnes FST jostain käsittämättömästä syystä (vai käsittääkö/tietääkö joku miksi?) päätti näyttää ekan tuotantokauden jaksoja aamuisin neloskauden lisäksi. Ooh la la! Ykköskausi tulee kai pari kertaa viikossa ja neloskausi kai kerran + uusinta päälle seuraavana päivänä, kai... Nyt me sitten katsotaan näitä iloisesti tuhannen sekaisin sitä mukaa kun tallentuvat, koska tyttö ei ole nähnyt ekaa kautta ja haluaa ehdottomasti katsoa :) Ainakin saadaan kunnon kerta-annos, kun kerran viikossa jämähdetään katsomaan :)

Tänä iltana ei Hill Streettiä kuitenkaan, koska neiti lukee Baskervillen koiraa koulua varten ja minä aion vakavasti pistellä. Ihania pistoja!

Item 1. I didn't manage to stitch a lot more St Hippolyte during the weekend, so this is my progress after the first week of my new rotation. I ♥ love ♥ this piece.

Item 2. I have finished a pair of socks! This is the first pair I've managed to knit from toe up. It isn't the first pair I have started knitting from toe up, far be it from me! Thank you Villasukka and Tuulia for your tips at Tampere craft fair, without you I would have never managed to finish these, even though I can't remember what kind of heel this is. I used Judy's magic cast-on and I think it's great. Below the proof, I've actually finished a pair. I ♥ love ♥ this yarn - hand dyed by Tuulia, bought from Etsy.

2. asia. Olen saanut valmiiksi sukat! Tämä on ensimmäinen sukkapari, jonka olen aloittanut kärjestä ja kutonut loppuun asti. Tämä ei ole ensimmäinen sukkapari, jonka olen aloittanut kärjestä, pois se minusta! I might be speaking of St Hippolyte when I say faithful companion. St Hippolyte really has been my companion this week, because even my son noticed (surprised) tonight "Mum, you're stitching this one, it's for yourself" :) I have finished the previous band and started another one. I'm actually hopeful at the moment - I might finish this someday!

But the faithful companion I'm referring to is Pipari. Actually I should say she is the faithful companion of my new laptop. Since Christmas Pipari has been following the sweet humming of my laptop, as she knows exactly where to find a perfect place to warm her paws and nose, when the temperature drops down to -30C (-22F) like today. This is how it goes, my friends...

Voisin tietysti tarkoittaa otsikolla St Hippolyteä. St Hippolyte on ollut niin uskollinen seuralainen tällä viikolla, että jopa poika huomasi asian tänä iltana - "Äiti, teet tuota omaa työtäsi taas" :) Sain edellisen nauhan valmiiksi ja pääsin aloittamaan tätä. Nyt on oikeasti toiveikas olo, että työ saattaa joskus valmistua.

Mutta otsikon uskollinen seuralainen on oikeasti Pipari. Totuudenmukaisesti pitää sanoa, että Pipari ei ole minun, vaan uuden läppärini uskollinen seuralainen. Joulusta asti Pipari on seurannut läppärin suloista hyrinää, koska kissaneiti tietää täsmälleen missä on paras paikka lämmitellä tassuja ja nenänpäätä tällaisena pakkaspäivänä, kun lämpötila tippuu -30 asteeseen. Näin se menee, ystävät...

This has happened every day! At this point I gently try to push Pipari away, so that my laptop doesn't melt. I fail and end up with taking my laptop and moving to another chair shutting down my laptop and letting Pipari sleep :) Cats rule... Manteli (below) prefers to stay in her watchtower above the oven, as she knows that the real heat is there and not beside the laptop air cooling port.

Näin on käynyt joka päivä! Tässä vaiheessa viimeistään yritän puskea Piparin pois, että läppäri ei sula. Epäonnistun ja päädyn ottamaan koneen ja vaihtamaan paikkaa sulkemaan koneen, että Pipari saa rauhassa nukkua :) Kuka täällä määrää... Manteli (alapuolella) pysyttelee mieluummin vahtitornissaan uunin yläpuolella, koska vanhempana ja viisaampana tietää, että oikea lämpö on siellä eikä läppärin jäähdytysilmavirrassa.

Pitäkäähän itsenne lämpimänä!

Ouch, I can't believe it's been more than a year since I've been stitching St Hippolyte... But as I've now organized my rotation (in the sidebar), on Sunday I picked this out for stitching. I'm determined to get this finished this year, so I'm going to stitch it every three weeks. I've noticed by trial and error that a weekly rotation is the best for me. I don't have time to stitch every night, but this way I can concentrate and get something done.

Kids and I still have tomorrow off and then back to school and work! We've been watching Star Wars (the original trilogy, Christmas gift for kids), and this narrow band has been suitable for stitching while watching. My stitching speed is always very slow if I watch TV at the same time, but I'm happy with this progress, another band finished soon!

The colours in today's photo are too pale, but it's a progress picture only, with Pipari :) Have a happy Tuesday!

Aijai, en mitenkään tajua, että siitä on jo yli vuosi, kun olen tätä viimeksi pistellyt... Sain pistelylukujärjestyksen tehtyä tuohon sivuun ja niinpä kaivoin St Hippolyten esille sunnuntaina. Aion saada työn valmiiksi tämän vuoden aikana, niinpä pistelen tätä joka kolmas viikko. Monenlaista kokeilemalla olen huomannut, että viikottainen lukujärjestys sopii minulle parhaiten. Joka ilta en ehdi pistelemään, mutta näin voin keskittyä ja saan joka viikko jotain aikaiseksi.

Lapsilla ja minulla on vielä huominen lomaa, sitten takaisin kouluun ja töihin! Olemme katsoneet Tähtien sotaa (alkuperäistä trilogiaa, jonka lapset saivat joululahjaksi) ja tuo kapea nauha on ollut juuri sopiva pisteltäväksi samaan aikaan. Minun pistelytahtini on tosi hidas jos katson samalla telkkaria, mutta olen tyytyväinen tähän edistymiseen, kohta taas yksi nauha valmis!

Äsken otettu kuva on ihan huono, värit liian haaleat, mutta se onkin vain pikainen tilannekatsaus, Piparin kanssa otettu :) Ihanaa tiistaita!

PS. Laitan vahingon kiertämään, minä eilen muutaman tunnin pistelin nojatuolissa läppäri vieressä samalla näitä miettien :) Nelosesta vaikkapa on ihan kiva aloittaa.

St Hippolyte + Friday's blog - Perjantaiblogi

It's Friday yippee, I love Fridays :) As I wrote in my goals review, I've completed the large band of St Hippolyte! Fortunately I haven't counted for how long I've been stitching this band, there are lots of stitches in it and it took forever... But it's my favourite band so far, it's so colourful and pretty! Hopefully rest of the bands won't take so long. I've now stitched half of this lovely sampler by Long Dog Samplers and I love every stitch.

I've received some blog awards lately (thank you!) and since I'm not very good in blogging about them (time flies!), I've decided to introduce one blog weekly, every Friday :) These are just lovely stitching blogs I enjoy reading, in random order and hopefully someone will find sometimes a new blog to read like this. At the same time I'll update my blog list in the sidebar, it's not up-to-date at all. I use Google Reader to read and I have hundreds of blogs there, but I still want to have some links in the sidebar. It's a lovely way to find new blogs!

So today's blog is Sari's blog. She's a stitching friend living here in the Oulu area. Her blog looks exactly like her, she's such a lovely person and does wonderful stitching :) She has recently made a beautiful wall hanging of Bent Creek's Redbird Sampler, take a look! She writes also in English, so scroll down :)

Ihana perjantai taasen! Kirjoittelinkin tavoitekatsauksessa, että Hippolyytin iso kukkanauha on valmis jipii! Kyllä se kestikin, paljon siinä on pistoja tietysti, mutta laiskasti olen tehnyt... Tuo on kyllä lempparinauhani tässä merkkaustaulussa, ihanan värikäs. Nyt on työ puolessa, malli on siis Long Dog Samplersin St Hippolyte. Kyllä se siitä joskus valmistuu :)

Kun olen niin huono jatkamaan meemejä ja palkintoja, niin päätin että esittelen joka perjantai jonkun ristipistoblogin :) Netti on täynnä ihania blogeja, ehkä näistä perjantaiblogeista joku silloin tällöin löytää uuden blogin luettavakseen! Nämä tulevat ihan satunnaisessa järjestyksessä sen mukaan kun mieleen juolahtaa, päivitän samalla tuossa sivupalkissa olevaa blogilistausta ajan tasalle. Luen lähes yksinomaan ristipistoblogeja (plus parin ystävän ei-käsityöblogia), muuten ei aika riitä. Ihania neuleblogejakin on maailma pullollaan, mutta muutama sata ristipistoblogia Google Readerissa on tarpeeksi että ehtii ihminen muutakin tehdä :)

Tänään käykää kurkkaamassa Sarin blogia. Sari on oululainen ristipistoystävä ja pitää ihan itsensä näköistä blogia ja tekee ihania töitä :) Nytkin viimeksi OMPELUKONEELLA ompeli aivan ihanan seinälle ripustettavan Bent Creekin Redbird Samplerin.

WIP - Työn alla

It's such a beautiful, sunny day today! So I went outside to take couple of photos of some WIPs, as I haven't shared these for a long time. These certainly aren't the only WIPs I have... :) There are some shadows of the trees in the photos, but please ignore them. The first one is St Hippolyte (by Long Dog Samplers), I've almost finished this big flower band! After this band I've completed half of the design, I really do hope to finish the whole sampler this year :)

Aurinko paistaa tänäänkin ihanasti, niinpä painuin ulos ottamaan muutaman kuvan työn alla olevista töistä. Nämä eivät kyllä tosiaankaan ole ainoat keskeneräiset työni... :) Kuvissa on vähän puiden varjoja, mutta älkää antako niiden häiritä. Eka kuvassa Long Dog Samplersin St Hippolyte, joka on ollut työn alla jo aika pitkään... :) Iso leveä kukkanauha on melkein valmis, elättelen toiveita että saisin tämän merkkaustaulun tänä vuonna valmiiksi, eihän sitä koskaan tiedä!

The first sheep has appeared to Come Tarry (Shepherd's Bush), I just LOVE this design! I haven't had much time to stitch this, but hopefully will later this year. The colours are so soft and I love every single motif in this :)

Come Tarry -työssä on jo eka lammas paikoillaan, mallihan on Shepherd's Bushin, tykkään ihan kamalasti tästä! En ole pitkään aikaan tätä pistellyt, mutta jospa tässä jonain päivänä taas... Tässä työssä on niin ihanan pehmeät värit ja jokainen kuvio on niin ihana :)

Last one is only a tiny start, but I like it a lot too :) I started stitching this in Muonio when we had a stitching weekend some weeks ago. I wanted to try the new Pomme de Pin threads I received to Violarium and this one is called Ecureuil en pyjama - Squirrel in pyjamas :) The design is published in a French book Repertoire des frises et bordures. I have no idea yet how I'm going to finish this and what to stitch in the middle, maybe this will be my first mattress pincushion, but I will think of that later :)

Oh and I really tried to take a photo of Spanish Mystery Sampler too, but I didn't succeed... Taking photos of black fabric isn't easy! So I'll try again another day when I've (hopefully) stitched a bit more :)

In case you're wondering, I think I'll stop writing in French into my blog, at least for now. Even though I enjoy writing in French, it's very slow for me and I'm SO busy nowadays. Also, I use French in my work every day, so hopefully I'll be able to keep up my French like that. I hope that writing only in English and Finnish will give me a bit more time so that I can update my blog regularly, as it's what I really wish to do :) Have a happy Sunday!

Viimeinen on ihan pieni alku vasta, mutta tykkään siitäkin :) Aloitin pistelemään tätä Muoniossa ristipistoviikonloppuna, koska halusin kokeilla uusia Pomme de Pin -lankoja, joita sain Violariumiin. Tämän langan nimi on Ecureuil en pyjama - Orava pyjamassa :) Malli on ranskalaisesta kirjasta Repertoire des frises et bordures. En tiedä yhtään vielä miten tämän viimeistelen, ehkä teen siitä sellaisen patjamaisen neulatyynyn, mutta mietin sitä sitten myöhemmin.

Yritin myös ottaa kuvaa Spanish Mystery Sampleristä, mutta en onnistunut... Mustasta kankaasta on niin hankala saada kunnon kuvia, yritän toisen kerran toisena päivänä. En ole sitä edes paljon vielä pistellyt, että ei siinä nyt hirveästi ole edes kuvaamista :)

Ai niin, jos ihmettelette, niin luulen, että lopetan toistaiseksi ranskaksi kirjoittamisen blogiin. Tykkään kirjoittaa ranskaksi, mutta se on hidasta. Aika on kortilla nykyään ja yritän organisoida :) Käytän sentään ranskaa työssäni joka päivä, että kielitaito luultavasti säilyy ilman blogiin kirjoitteluakin. Luulen, että blogiin kirjoittaminen nopeutuu ilman ranskaa niin paljon, että ehdin päivittää blogia vähän useammin, haluaisin päivittää säännöllisesti jos vaan ehdin :) Oikein ihanaa ja aurinkoista sunnuntain jatkoa!
