30%, 40%...

Happy Thursday! I haven't yet decided if this is approximately 30% or 40% of my WIPs... Both might be quite accurate guesses though.

The reason I'm showing these is that a fellow stitcher organizes (in Finnish only, sorry) an event for crazy stitchers who suffer or even worse, want to suffer from startitis. In January we are going to start a new design every day for the first fifteen days of the month. That's the easy part. The difficult part is that we are supposed to also finish these fifteen designs during 2011. I just might ignore the difficult part or who knows, maybe I'm going to surprise myself.

At least I know myself - I stitch to travel, not to arrive and I love every stitch of it.

Kesken sitä, tätä ja tuota,
eikä ehkä edes puolta ole niissä kuvissa hämärissä.

Pardon? Kunhan vuosi vanhenee
niin homma paranee, katsokaa vaikka tämä paikka!

Nautin enemmän

aluista kuin lopuista,
matkanteosta kuin perille pääsystä.

♥ Tuesday ♥ - ♥ Tiistai ♥

St Hippolyte (Long Dog Samplers)
30 count linen (honey - hunaja)
DMC threads

What a clever title :) I'll go stitching after writing this post, so this will (maybe) be short and compact.

Item 1. I didn't manage to stitch a lot more St Hippolyte during the weekend, so this is my progress after the first week of my new rotation. I ♥ love ♥ this piece.

****

1. asia. En paljon ehtinyt Hippolyyttiä pistellä viikonlopun aikana lisää, niinpä tässä tilanne ekan viikon jälkeen. ♥ Rakastan ♥ tätä.

Item 2. I have finished a pair of socks! This is the first pair I've managed to knit from toe up. It isn't the first pair I have started knitting from toe up, far be it from me! Thank you Villasukka and Tuulia for your tips at Tampere craft fair, without you I would have never managed to finish these, even though I can't remember what kind of heel this is. I used Judy's magic cast-on and I think it's great. Below the proof, I've actually finished a pair. I ♥ love ♥ this yarn - hand dyed by Tuulia, bought from Etsy.

*****

2. asia. Olen saanut valmiiksi sukat!

Lace and cable socks, Socks from the toe up by Wendy Knits
Superwash sock yarn, 3-ply 75% wool, 25% nylon blend, hand dyed by Tuulia

Item 3. I've received these lovely organza bows to Violarium, I use them often when finishing pinkeeps etc. If you order organza bows this week and mention my blog or Violarium's blog in the comments of your order, I'll include a small extra package into your order. It contains couple of meters organza ribbon, a matching DMC thread skein and couple of cotton fabric pieces for finishing pinkeeps. I ♥ love ♥ these bows.

Item 4. I'm off to stitch, have a
♥ happy ♥ day!

3. asia.

4. asia. Painun pistelemään,
♥ ihanaa ♥ iltaa!

Plum Street Samplers: Morning Bird

Plum Street Samplers: Morning Bird
30 count linen with DMC threads

Fingerless mittens (Rinsessa, modified)
Kämmekkäät Rinsessa-mallia mukaellen
Hjertegarn Alpaca Silk yarn

When we went to stitch for the weekend with my stitching friends, I had seven WIPs with me and I rotated them just for fun, I changed a new work every hour :) This is one of them and I'm going to finish this as a bag, to carry my sheet music papers for choir rehearsals. I was searching for a chart for this specific purpose and found this and also The Prairie Schooler's Birdsong I, which I'm going to stitch and finish as a cover for my music binder. I love the verses in both of them!

Having many WIPs is fine, even pleasant for me. I want to have many alternatives quickly at hand, because I never know in the morning what I want to stitch tonight :) However, I've noticed this only applies to stitching... I've been knitting a bit now during my vacation and even though I've been knitting a lot earlier, my mind must be somehow tuned to the stitching frequency nowadays. I make SO many mistakes while knitting, it's almost frustrating! I'm not even knitting anything challenging, but still, I make these stupid mistakes :) Having three pairs of socks, two pairs of mittens, one poncho and one scarf as a WIP doesn't actually help. It takes time forever to find out which row I've been knitting two weeks ago. Stitching at least is easy! So I've sacredly promised to finish one knitting work at a time and only then continue (or start!) another. As a result, I finished this pair of fingerless mittens and I love them :) Waiting for the autumn...

Have a happy, happy day!

PS. Reading at the moment :)

"This, more than anything else, is what I have never understood about your people. You can roll a dice, and understand that the whole game may hinge on one turn of a die. You deal out cards, and say that all a man's fortune for the night may turn upon one hand. But a man's whole life, you sniff at, and say, what, this nought of a human, this fisherman, this carpenter, this thief, this cook, why, what can they do in the great wide world? And so you putter and sputter your lives away, like candles burning in a draught."

"Not all men are destined for greatness," I remind him.

"Are you sure, Fitz? Are you sure? What good is a life lived as if it made no difference at all to the great life of the world? A sadder thing I cannot imagine. Why should not a mother say to herself, if I raise this child aright, if I love and care for her, she shall live a life that brings joy to those about her, and thus I have changed the world? Why should not the farmer that plants a seed say to his neighbor, this seed I plant today will feed someone, and that is how I change the world today?"

"This is philosophy, Fool. I have never had time to study such things."

"No, Fitz, this is life. And no one has time not to think of such things. Each creature in the world should consider this thing, every moment of the heart's beating. Otherwise, what is the point of arising each day?"

Etsin malleja nimenomaan tätä tarkoitusta varten ja löysin tämän, sekä The Prairie Schoolerin mallin Birdsong I, josta teen nuottikansiolle kannet.

Ristipistojen tekeminen sentään on helppoa! Niinpä olen pyhästi luvannut, että teen yhden neuleprojektin kerrallaan valmiiksi ja sitten vasta tartun uuteen. Ensimmäisenä tuloksena tästä lupauksesta sain valmiiksi kämmekkäät, joista tykkään kovasti :) Syksyä odotellessa...

Ihanaakin ihanampaa tätä päivää!

PS.

Exchange for Heather and Magic Mirror mittens - Vaihto Heatherille ja Magic Mirror -lapaset

Heather reminded me some time ago that I haven't written about the exchange I sent her in the autumn. I had to check and double-check and that's true, I have completely forgot to show you this! Thank you Heather for noticing this! We had a personal exchange and I stitched this small wallhanging / ornament for Heather. The design is October Curls by Bent Creek and I stitched it on 25 count Floba, over one. I added some linen string into the edges and also linen stems. It was great to do this exchange for Heather, she's such a sweet person and a talented stitcher!

Below you'll see that I definitely have done also something else than stitching during my Christmas holiday :) I haven't been knitting in ages, but I quickly grabbed some beautiful yarns at Tampere craft fair in November. Then I accidentally found Kristel's Magic Mirror mittens in Knotions magazine and I realized that one of the yarns I had bought was suitable for this pattern. I started knitting immediately but didn't finish these until now. I've knitted years ago, but I've never knitted "in English", so it took some time to figure out the abbreviations, but I found help in the Internet of course.

I fell in love with the pattern, some of the cables are mirrored for left and right mitten and it was great to knit again. I'm very happy with the result and so I took lots of photos with my daughter. The mittens are (fortunately) a bit too big for her, in some photos there are her hands inside and in some mine :) The yarn is Colinette Jitterbug and if I remember correctly, I used 2.75 mm needles, as I wanted the mittens to be more tight. While knitting I realized that stitch markers might be handy, I have all kinds of acccessories for stitching but not for knitting :)

Not to worry, this blog won't turn into a knitting blog :) I was just so happy with the result that I wanted to show photos. Have a happy Sunday evening, I'm off to stitch!

Halusin napakan tuntoiset lapaset ja sellaiset niistä tuli, just sopivat.
